ABSTRACT
The publicity about laser guided bombs (LGBS) in Vietnam and laser weaponry has awakened the old flashing fears of the laser as a death ray. The state of the social conscience of the research physicist is also a factor. The physicist should also remember that exploitation of the wonderful laser discoveries is done not by the physicist, but by man himself. The concern for us in laser technology is the disillusion of the youth, both those who may venture into science and those already in science. The new and important laser technology cannot afford to be neglected by the current vigorous antiscience philosophy. The laser, by its very nature, can show it belongs to modern science. The laser scientist, to be formed and those formed already, should see the true potential of lasers in the order of the universe for the glory and good-of-man.
