ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on configuration control procedures as they pertain to both development and system test. It describes several levels of configuration control. The identity of the administrator and the procedures for change control depend on the category of the deliverable. When a release of a subsystem is made to system test, all deliverables associated with that subsystem are placed under the control of system test. The development of any complex computer based system involves the generation of a significant number of plans and specifications. When the product is released from system test it is placed under released product configuration control. Assigning document numbers is an important aspect of configuration control as well. Configuration administrator is responsible for maintaining the master copy, and for controlling update and distribution of all documents. Document updates may be in the form of addendums, section or page changes, or complete revisions.
