ABSTRACT

Pressure measurement may be difficult, because vapor can condense in a line leading to a pressure gauge. That difficulty can be overcome by connection of pressure transducers to the vapor space of the cell. If there is an equipped laboratory and someone trained to run it, response time can be days instead of months. Sometimes it can take less time to actually carry out the experiments than to get approval for funds to have them done elsewhere. This is particularly true when some of the more convenient methods described below are used. If the research program is aimed not at a new chemical synthesis but at a new separation for existing chemicals, probing data may be needed to establish feasibility. Realistically, it is not easy to get money for contract research on high-risk probing projects. Repeated measurements of the same type often can justify an in-house capability.
