ABSTRACT

Pewaukee, Wisconsin is the site of a 0.5-mgd wastewater treatment plant incorporating the rotating contactor process for secondary biological treatment. The treatment plant was constructed and evaluated with EPA demonstration grant funds. The Pewaukee treatment plant began operation in December 1971, and underwent a full year of evaluation as part of the demonstration program. The treatment plant operates as follows: Raw wastewater passes through a Parshall flume and comminutor to a wet well. A wastewater treatment plant incorporating the rotating contactor process was placed into operation in May 1971, in the Blackberry Hill subdivision of Brewster, New York. Maintenance and operator attention required for sewage treatment plants in remote areas is of great concern. Operating and maintenance costs of Eiler's Cheese Co. for the rotating biological contactor (RBC) installation were very low. A rotating contactor process installation has been in operation at the S. B. Thomas Bakery in Totowa, New Jersey, since 1970.
