ABSTRACT
Jubilees, mass migrations of estuarine organisms to the shores of Mobile Bay, have been presumed to be induced by hypoxic bottom waters. A review of new and historic data sets corroborates this hypothesis and elucidates the processes causing hypoxia. Hypoxia may be frequent and widespread during the summer, stratified season, while the winter climatology appears generally to preclude its occurrence.
