ABSTRACT

The good Expert needs to be street smart and possess a strong theoretical background. Street smartness is just plain essential, since lawsuits generally arise from practical difficulties. The credentials of a good Expert should at least match those of the opposing Expert. A good Expert acts and looks dignified, dresses in good taste, and has a confident demeanor and attitude. The "know-it-all expert" approach is the favorite tactic of scientists and of engineers, also seen bluffing nonprofessionals use this tactic and get away with it. The director's expert brought along another set of maps, plans, and numbers. The director's expert pointed out that by building the eastern reservoir the city would realize much more water for the same expenditure of money than it would realize by building a western reservoir. The "know-it-all expert" approach is, in reality, a tactical bluff.
