ABSTRACT

It would probably be logical to examine first the role of L P 0 reactions as a regulatory or modifying process under normal physiological conditions, and then to proceed to the presentation of the damaging effects of L P 0 when pathological conditions develop. However, the available experimental data do not permit us to follow such logic because at present the information about the participation of L P 0 processes in normal metabolic processes is exhausted with single and isolated examples which will be discussed later (see Chapter 4). Therefore, it is impossible to outline the general picture of the participation of the freeradical lipid oxidation reactions in the normal metabolism.
