ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses considerations involving personnel connected with the anaerobic laboratory and the use of the results. This will include two groups — the physicians using the laboratory results and the laboratory personnel. Comments will be made with respect to these two groups regarding their role in the laboratory functions, the importance of their attitude concerning the results, and what educational support will be needed to assist these people in generating and using the results in the most effective manner. The doctors that utilize the services of the laboratory are a heterogeneous group, differing in specialty, training, age, and attitude toward laboratory tests. It is to the benefit of everyone — doctors, patients, and laboratories — to have as many doctors as possible active in the request for and the utilization of laboratory results. Many anaerobic procedures require meticulous attention to detail and conscious striving for excellence.
