ABSTRACT

A record of telephone conversations that led to decisions and data transmission, memos of meetings, and other notes that contain data used in preparing the Environmental impact statement (EIS). Depending on the level of the National Environmental Policy Act documentation adopted for a project, enforceable mitigation measures, monitoring programs, or other requirements can be specified in Finding of no significant impact or record of decision. To ensure that useful records are prepared during the course of the EIS project, each large EIS project may create a position of an EIS records keeper. The position description would be to ensure that a registry of all auditable records, data sources, and correspondence is maintained, filed, and stored for later retrieval. Another important measure to ensure that mitigation commitments are implemented is to audit the effectiveness of the measure during the operation of the facility.
