ABSTRACT

Informations on etiology, symptoms, pathogenesis, and epidemiology of plant diseases are intellectually interesting and scientifically justified. Contrary to management of human and animal diseases, where every individual is attended, the plant diseases are generally treated as populations except for trees, ornamentals, and sometimes virus infected plants. Decision such as choice of crop, crop variety, planting date, planting method, fertilization rates, pesticides, tillage type and frequency, irrigation method and frequency, harvesting method, and crop storage all influence plant diseases. Selection and integrated use of appropriate practices to suppress disease is a logical approach for successful management of plant diseases. A special feature of plant diseases, especially of the annual field crops, is that the disease is recognized when damage to the entire plant or its organ has already taken place. Certain principles of plant disease control help in reducing incidence of several diseases.
