ABSTRACT

In designing the mobile laboratory layout, the analyses which will be performed should be identified. Provision of adequate analytical laboratory services is also required, including consideration of general laboratory planning, mobile laboratories, and laboratory safety. Routine analyses in baseline water quality monitoring studies may include specific conductance, colour, hardness, pH, temperature, alkalinity, and dissolved oxygen plus others as appropriate. The sample collector should label all samples and complete all field analyses and necessary records before leaving a sampling station. Sampling of a river will likely be done under a wide range of conditions, and the work may have certain hazards. A knowledge of the hazards involved and the means by which they can be minimized should be helpful in preventing accidents and in providing greater safety for persons involved in sample collection. Sampling equipment for collection of sediment samples as well as bottom dwelling macrofauna include several types of dredges and related equipment.
