ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on data storage and processing systems, and provides brief information on data interpretation, water quality indices, and the preparation of reports on water quality studies. The three most frequently mentioned purposes for using water quality indices by the users were: preparation of annual reports, public information presentations, and analysis of water quality trends. Analytical data obtained in water quality surveys should be filed in an orderly and systematic manner to ensure rapid access to the data when it is required by study managers, research workers, and other potential users. Usage of the data and its analysis and interpretation is also necessary as a part of report preparation. Once water quality data have been collected and assembled in data storage systems, the next step is to interpret the data with respect to study objectives, specific questions, environmental problems, and water resource management requirements.
