ABSTRACT
A comprehensive review of the extensive literature of the subject which has been presented shows, on the one hand, the progress in understanding the numerous determinants of soil aeration status and its complex multifactorial influence on soil processes and plant response and, on the other hand, discovers the gaps in our knowledge and the need for their rectification in future research.
