ABSTRACT

In working an undercover case where contraband is involved, the agency and the undercover personnel should be aware that the suspect might be having trouble in bringing everything together for the delivery. The suspect and gathering evidence against him are the primary reasons for conducting undercover operations. An undercover agent might have to be patient while waiting for a delivery because the suspect may have unexpected problems arise that prevent him from making a delivery exactly at the agreed upon time. Arresting a suspect is usually the end of only a part of the investigation, as it may be the beginning of a secondary phase such as identifying and locating the source of the contraband and peripheral associates, methods, and materials. In workplace undercover cases, the starting point is usually the human resources department or the top-ranking supervisor who placed the undercover investigator in the position, which of course is the same as saying the informant.
