ABSTRACT

This chapter is on supply chain management. At first, various types of related chains such as supply chain, development chain, reverse supply chain, and spare parts chain have been introduced. Then, the major drivers of supply chain have been discussed. These are distribution, transportation, information. However, the other two drivers are production and inventory that have not been discussed in this chapter as they have been discussed already in this book in other chapters. Different types of distribution strategies mentioned are—direct shipment strategy, intermediate inventory storage pint strategy, indirect distribution, intensive distribution, selective distribution, exclusive distribution. Various modes of transportation along with their characteristics have also been discussed. Under the discussion on information driver, various types of contract have been mentioned as the tool for supply chain coordination. A brief overview of supply chain performance measures has also been presented followed by the summary of recent research studies on supply chain
