ABSTRACT

The topics presented in the third section of the book start with an initial screening of the environmental theories and the relationships among environmental impact, sustainability, and technology affluence.

After a critical analysis on how these theories should be relooked based on today's living lifestyle, a new proposition of environmental impact is proposed where the role of technology and the relationships between environmental impact, affluence, and technology are reversed, and the role of technology in mitigating and even reversing environmental impact is justified.

The leading thought in this part of the book is that there is not a contradiction between an affluent and technological lifestyle and a low environmental impact and sustainable life.

Humanity does not have to give up anything, neither the beauty of nature nor the comfort of technology. Quite the contrary. Technological and cultural progress may lead us to reverse this, and there can be at the same time an affluent, highly technological society, supporting a large population living in perfect harmony with the environment.

This thought will be again dealt with in the economic part and used to support the concept that economic growth and sustainability are not at odds with each other. Businesses do not have to necessarily destroy the world to make profit. Quite the contrary.
