ABSTRACT

A trencher is an excavating machine specialized for trench excavation, which can be equipped with belt conveyer for spoiling soil or loading trucks. However, a trencher is an excavating machine specialized for trench excavation, which is bulky and lacks versatility in other tasks. Therefore, trenchers can only be used in specific project tasks, such as excavation for linear foundations, drainage channels, or underground utility lines. A wheel-type trencher is a track-mounted machine, which relies on a bucketed metal wheel with each toothed bucket digging into the soil. Depending on their size, wheel-type trenchers can be single- or twin-engine. A chain-type trencher is a track-mounted machine, which relies on a toothed chain with each tooth digging into the soil and breaking down boulders and rocks. Productivity of trenchers is highly dependent on the operating conditions, the soil conditions, and both the depth and width of the excavation.
