ABSTRACT

A dozer is a self-propelled machine that is used to pull a load or attachment or push a load with a front-mounted blade. Dozers are either mounted on tracks or on wheels. Dozers are very versatile equipment that is used to perform many earthmoving tasks. Tracked dozers are operated at slow speeds but possess good flotation and traction. Wheeled dozers can be operated at higher speeds but exert more ground pressure and generally have lower coefficients of traction. The maximum push or pull that can be exerted is limited by the weight of the dozer and the coefficient of traction. Larger dozers are more productive than smaller ones, but they cost more per hour to own or rent and operate. A contractor is planning to use a tracked dozer with power shift transmission to excavate 1,500 bank cubic yards for the foundation of a large house.
