ABSTRACT

The analysis of publications in activity theory allows the identification of three areas in this field: general activity theory, applied activity theory, and systemic-structural activity theory (SSAT). SSAT views activity as a structurally organized self-regulated system rather than as an aggregation of responses to multiple stimuli, or a linear sequence of information-processing stages as described in behavioral or cognitive psychology. SSAT offers the following method of activity analysis: parametric method, morphological analysis, functional analysis, qualitative method, quantitative methods, and genetic analysis. SSAT demonstrates that the concepts such as system and structure can be applied not only to the study of man-machine systems but also to the study of work activity in general. The chapter considers the basic concepts as production or operationally monitoring processes, task, goal, human performance, design, and so on. It presents the original method of study of the production process in the building construction industry. Each such production process can be divided into technological and work process.
