ABSTRACT
This chapter considers reproductive technologies, one of which vitro fertilization (IVF) has been around for some time. It discusses the possible fates of embryos produced by IVF and the possible undesirable consequences of each. The chapter aims to compare gamete intrafallopian transfer and zygote intrafallopian transfer with IVF. Several methods of artificial birth control seek to prevent the rendezvous of gametes in the ampulla of the fallopian tube. The chapter also discusses the advantages of preimplantation embryo diagnosis for expecting parents who are carriers of known genetic defects. It explores ntracytoplasmic sperm injection and nonsurgical sperm aspiration, including the purpose of the reproductive technologies. The chapter describes cloning as it pertains to the development of mammals and the current status of human cloning. Cloning is the act of creating organisms from preexisting organisms by asexual means. The resulting organisms are genetically identical with the original organisms.
