ABSTRACT

Integrated evaluation of disability (IED) defines asymptomatic chronic anaemia with Hgb 110–129 g/L as class “1” impairment of “0%.” It describes symptomatic anaemia without cardiopulmonary limitations, and Hgb 70–109 g/L requiring occasional blood transfusion as class “2” impairment of 15%. And symptomatic anaemia with cardiopulmonary limitations, Hgb lower than 70 g/L, and transfusion-dependent for survival as class “3” impairment of 37%. IED assigns an impairment of 10% if chronic myeloid leukaemia remains uncured and under medication. Lymphocytosis in the blood and bone marrow, lymphadenopathy, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, anaemia, and thrombocytopenia serve as parameters to define impairment in chronic lymphoid leukaemia. IED assigns an impairment of 5% for persons with thrombocytopenia with a platelet count of 20,000–50,000/µL with bleeding on major trauma or surgery. It allocates 25% for a platelet count of 10,000–20,000/µL with spontaneous bleeding responding to treatment. It allocates 50% for platelet count below 10,000/µL with frequent spontaneous bleeding refractory to treatment. “Integrated Evaluation of Disability” describes an impairment of 5% for haemophilia with coagulation factor of more than 5% and less than 40% of a normal level. It assigns 15% for haemophilia with coagulation factor of 1%–5% of a normal level, 25% for haemophilia with coagulation factor of less than1% of a normal level. It assigns 50% for haemophilia with coagulation factor of less than 1% of a normal level and factor replacement could not control haemorrhage or haemarthrosis because of factor VIII or IX inhibitor. IED assigns an impairment of 15% for persons with HIV infection under category “A” on antiretroviral treatment for the burden of treatment compliance and stigma. It allocates 25% for persons with AIDS disease under category “B” for the burden of disease, the burden of treatment compliance and stigma. It allocates 25+% for AIDS disease under category “C” with advanced disease. IED assigns additional impairment for dementia, renal failure, cardiac failure, liver failure, and so on, besides 25%.
