ABSTRACT

Sources of magnesium chloride are identified fully in Chapter 4, because it is the backbone chemical for manufacturing magnesium. The most important source is seawater. Next are brines and bitterns, and by dissolving magnesite in hydrochloric acid. Obtaining magnesium chloride from seawater by the Dow chemical process is detailed. Desalination plants are another important source to extract magnesium chloride from. An additional source for magnesium chloride is described in the chapter and is referred to as the Dual-Purpose Solvay-Dow: Conceptual Process.
