ABSTRACT

The standard controller design is restricted to linear or weakly nonlinear processes and the design of optimal and robust controllers for nonlinear systems is relatively a complicated problem. Some simpler suboptimal methods can be used to modify the linear optimal and robust control methods to nonlinear dynamic plant, which is described as a linear parameter varying system, and an optimal robust controller is determined using the estimated maximum rate of change of the system’s parameters. The robust H2 performance problem has to deal with: H2norm for performance optimization and the H-Infinity (HI) norm for robustness; signifying a need of the mixed H2/HI optimal/robust control problem. The chapter discusses some basic aspects of control system related to uncertainty and the requirement of robustness and robust control and present several examples on robust stability and robust performance.
