ABSTRACT

Frank Thomas (1912–2004) was one of the great animators of Walt Disney's Nine Old Men. While modestly insisting Marc Davis and Milt Kahl were the better artists than him, Frank animated some of the most memorable moments in Disney history: Bambi and Thumper on the ice, Pinocchio singing “I Got No Strings,” Captain Hook, Baloo singing “Look for the Bare Necessities,” Winnie the Pooh, and the Queen of Hearts. With his livelong friend and colleague Ollie Johnston, he authored the seminal book, Disney Animation: the Illusion of Life. He was also the piano player in the band The Firehouse Five.
