ABSTRACT

Joy Batchelor (1914–1991) was a British animator, director, and producer. In 1940, she and her husband, John Halas, started Halas & Batchelor Studios in London. For many years, it was the predominant animation studio in Britain. Their most famous collaboration was the film adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm (1954). Their 1963 film Automania 2000 was nominated for an Academy Award. In 1967, Joy wrote and directed solo an animated feature of Gilbert & Sullivan's operetta Ruddigore.
