ABSTRACT

John Halas (1912–1995) learned animation in Hungary before moving to England in 1936. In 1940, John and his British animator-bride Joy Batchelor started Halas & Batchelor Studios in London. For many years it was the predominant animation studio in Britain. Their most famous collaboration was the film adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm (1954). They also created 70 short films, commercials, and educational films. John co-wrote Techniques in Film Animation, and Timing for Animation, seminal books in animation education.
