ABSTRACT

It is needless to mention that remote sensing is highly useful for modelling, monitoring and mapping the tsunami drifts on the earth’s surface [17-22]. It is a great potential for appraising, monitoring and mapping various parameters relating physical properties of sea surface. Recent advancement in remote sensing towards data acquisition and integration of spatial and temporal physical properties of sea water models provided a renewed prospect for managing and evaluating the sea surface water quality problems due to tsunami appearances. This chapter proposes some novel mathematical algorithms to retrieve numerous sea water quality parameters using Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS). The developed model is implemented to assess and map these water quality parameters distributions in the context of Aceh coastal waters.
