ABSTRACT
Altimeter satellite data were the first devices that observed and monitored the tsunami wave propagation. Two hours after the 2004 earthquake, altimeter data started to record the echo signal from the tsunami wave spreading. The sensors first recorded the wave travelling from Aceh coastal water towards the Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka. The altimeter sensors continued to observe the wave spreading and dissipation widely across the Indian Ocean.
