ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 provides information on the transnational nature of tertiary education and tertiary students, as well as the global mobility of academics and other highly trained citizens, and how their distribution across the world may affect national economies. The chapter includes a brief introduction to two main bodies which administer multinational recognition agreements: the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) and the European Network for the Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE). It then discusses what “global competencies” for engineers might look like.
