ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 introduces the UNESCO/OECD guidelines for cross-border education before going on to discuss the importance of dual accreditation and who the main stakeholders are. Examples of multiple accreditation processes for the same qualification are examined within the context of higher education within the USA and Australia. The specific example of dual accreditation within the Washington Accord is then provided, with a detailed examination of the critical process of “cross-mapping”. The limitations of cross-mapping are examined, and the importance of the learning environment is briefly considered. Finally, some considerations of the future directions and developments within dual accreditation processes are highlighted, within the contexts of the major stakeholders.
