ABSTRACT

An ODE of order n is an equation relating the function y of the independent variable x to some of its derivatives including that of highest order. This chapter focuses on these equations in the case where they are posed in normal form. This fact allows to draw a clear connection to systems of first-order ODEs, thus making possible to transfer the solution techniques discussed in the previous chapter to the present case. A final section is devoted to oscillatory solutions to linear ODE problems of order 2.
