Pharmaceutical research and biotechnology companies are “devoted to inventing medicines that allow patients to live longer, healthier, and more productive lives”. A pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical company is a commercial business licensed to research, develop, market and/or distribute drugs, most commonly in the context of healthcare. In the new millennium, drug development is increasingly characterized by Globalization. According to Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation’s estimates in 2016, prescription drug spending in the United States was about $457 billion in 2015, or 16.7 percent of overall personal health care services. Bringing a drug to market requires extensive and lengthy collaborations among people from dozens of disciplines. The method of drug discovery is to break down the disease process into the cellular and molecular levels that more specific and effective drugs can be discovered and manufactured to intervene or restore the cellular or molecular dysfunction.
