ABSTRACT

The contour accuracy specifies the acceptable deviation of the actual surface shape of an optical component's optically active surface with respect to the target surface shape. Apart from plastics, crystals, and liquids, optical glass satisfying the requirements as introduced above and specified in manufacturing drawings represents the main raw material for the production of optical components. The required specifications for manufacturing an optical component such as its dimensions and shape including the particular tolerances are itemized by appropriate elements and designations in manufacturing drawings. Generally, position tolerances in optomechanical systems and assemblies have a significant impact on the performance. Visualization of the lens centering error is given by the angular deviation between the optical axis and the mechanical axis. The angular deviation between the optical axis and the mechanical axis of a lens is referred to as centering error. Surface cleanliness is described by the maximum number and size of surface effects.
