ABSTRACT

The signals from machines need to be measured and analyzed to interpret the condition of the machine. To achieve this, the machine should first be instrumented with the appropriate transducer to measure the mechanical parameter that manifests as a signal from the machine. In machinery condition monitoring, some of the most common mechanical parameters measured are vibration, temperature, motor current, oil condition, and so on. In this chapter, a brief insight into the principles of measurement and the appropriate transducers required for measurement of the common mechanical parameters are provided. A brief on the working principle behind the transducers, their special features, and applications is also provided.
