I. PBTs: An introduction The term industrial chemicals refers to the tens of thousands of substances that are used by businesses on a daily basis throughout the world. As used by regulators, the term industrial chemicals generally excludes pharmaceuticals, food additives, biocides, and pest-control products because those chemical applications are covered by unique regulatory processes. Within industry, chemicals are widely used in clothing, furniture, electronics, plastics, paints, cosmetics, and many other consumer products.
