ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Initial Verification of an installation is to be carried out before it is put in to service, but what does Initial Verification actually mean? What does it relate to? It is primarily the first inspection and testing of a new installation, or an addition or alteration to an existing installation to confirm it meets the standard required by BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installation. The reason or purpose of Initial Verification is to confirm, through the inspecting and testing procedure, that the installation complies with requirements of BS 7671 in terms of: its design and construction. The establishment of a safe electrical installation is a systematic process: design and installation, with the Inspection and Testing via Initial Verification, being the final link and probably the most crucial. The inspection process will normally take place with all, or that part of the installation which is to be inspected, disconnected from the supply.
