ABSTRACT

The contribution of steel in the construction world is enormous. It is about 15%–20% of the total cost of concrete work. Producing reinforcement of a required size and shape is a time consuming activity and fixing it is also a time consuming activity. It has become a challenge and constraints for the achievement of desired target. So all activities pertaining to reinforcement shall be controlled and monitored in a structured way.

This chapter teaches to develop a bar bending yard with all equipment for cutting, bending and handling within the yard and also educates to make Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) with proper hooks and bends to have a requisite cut length to avoid wastage. It educates readers about the special care to be taken for detailing particularly in providing hooks to counteract seismic force and utilization of a mechanical splicer and bar coupler to accelerate space of work as well as to avoid congestion.
