ABSTRACT

The main aim of this chapter is to introduce the basics of probability starting with the definition of simple conceptual terms such as random experiments, sample points, events, and sample space. Next, we will highlight various versions of the definitions of probability and, in the process, derive the probability laws. We will also take a look at conditional probability and the independence of events. This chapter will finally conclude with a discussion of the concept of total probability and the statement of Bayes’ theorem.
