ABSTRACT

We mentioned in Chapter 4 that the field of statistics has two main parts, namely, descriptive and inferential. Each part presents various ways of describing statistics, that is, the descriptive with minimum mathematical involvement and the inferential with maximum mathematical involvement. In other words, the descriptive statistics explains what is happening in a population or data set, while the inferential statistics lets mathematicians and scientists to make decisions regarding the population from information on the sample. Descriptive statistics were discussed in detail in Chapter 4. In this chapter, we discuss many properties of inferential statistics.
