ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to develop and present a methodology for cases studies, developing suitable options to solve the water supply issues, based on the recently introduced WaterMet modelling approach. It also aims to develop a water balance for Puerto Ayora, in order to compare the baseline conditions (business as usual) with a number of possible intervention strategies to meet future demand, under different scenarios of population growth rates. Water demand forecasting has been developed and applied over the last decades due to a variety of purposes. Mainly, researchers identify it as useful to understand spatial and temporal patterns of water use in the future. Urban Water Systems (UWS) modelling is currently focusing towards a more holistic procedure, trying to include and model every process separately in the system. The water supply conduits refer to means of conveying raw water from the resources point to the Water Treatment Works (WTWs), and then the treated water is transferred to service reservoirs.
