ABSTRACT

Algorithms, tools, and databases for biomolecular research

are developed by different groups, in different contexts,

using different technologies. In this way the community

offers a wide range of different resources, which seems to

be extremely advantageous at the first glance. However,

the drawbacks of the highly distributed and heterogeneous

nature of these resources become apparent when it comes

to integration within programmatic environments. The

“Public Resources” section gives an overview of com-

monly known, programmatically accessible tools and

data repositories in the field of molecular biology. The

“Service Registries” section describes some bioinfor-

matics service registries that aim to collect services,

equip them with helpful metainformation, and provide

homogeneous ways of access.
