ABSTRACT

Ethics is a branch of philosophy focused on the study of

right and wrong human acts. The word will be used both in

the plural and in the singular form in this entry. In the

context of professions, ethics refers to a person’s acts

when fulfilling occupational responsibilities and/or when

commenting on occupational issues. Acts can be deemed

ethical or unethical depending on the ethical standards

through which one judges them. To help analyze the ethi-

cality of acts, ethicists have devised ethical theories-

practically, normative doctrines-with principles for

decision making.
