ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes some recommendations about what action to take with regard to the technological singularity. The competitive advantage to any company, government or military force of owning a superior Artificial Intelligence (AI) is too great. AI research would carry on because the competitive advantage of wielding better AI than peoples rivals is too tempting to be foregone by governments, companies and armies. The research would be driven underground, and as Artificial general Intelligence draws close it will be developed without appropriate safeguards. There is a school of thought which holds that it is too early to have the public discussion. The school of thought believes that the people who are actually able to do something about the friendly Artificial Intelligence problem – people with world-class skills in deep learning and cognitive neuroscience – should be allowed to get on with the job until they can demonstrate some tangible progress.
