ABSTRACT

The game world is populated by over 1,000 characters, each equipped with Bethesda's “Radiant AI” system. The characters respond to their environment and maintain convincing schedules. Level scaling amounts to moving the goalposts. Not everyone agrees with that assessment, of course, and there is the idea that it makes exploring each part of the gameworld consistently challenging. According to Bruce Nesmith, Bethesda's director of design, “Players expect from game developers that we use our creativity to create content they want to experience. The inevitable sequel, Dragon Age II, appeared in March 2011. It's generally regarded as the weakest of the series so far, though it's not hard to find fans who prefer it to the rest. Dragon Age II brought some interesting ideas to the table, including a politically charged story and a three-act structure that gives us insights into separate periods of Hawke's life.
