ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 presents an examination of the features, functions, and capabilities of Frame Relay (FR) and Fibre Channel (FC) technologies. Frame Relay and Fibre Channel platforms were developed in the 1980s for enabling fast transmission, diverse applications, and networking operations in local area and wider area environments. The chapter begins with an exploration of Frame Relay technical fundamentals, operations, standards, and representative initiatives. Following the FR examination, Fibre Channel configurations, applications, and implementations are described.
