ABSTRACT
This chapter describes some example commercial Web data and information management products related to XML. They are grouped into various categories such as database systems, data mining, and knowledge management. Much of the information on the products is an update of what is provided in [THUR00]; however, some new details are added on recent breakthrough products and services such as
Simple Object Access Protocol
(
SOAP
),
Web Services Description Language
(
WSDL
),
DOTNET, Universal Description Discovery and Integration
(
UDDI
), and
Java 2 Enterprise Edition
(
J2EE
). These are the standards and technologies to be followed up. They are included as part of the products and tools chapter because technology is changing by the day, and the information that is current today may be outdated tomorrow. Therefore, it is very important to keep up with all the information that is available on the Web. Much of this information can be found in World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) white papers as well as under XML cover pages.
