ABSTRACT
During the 1990s, the American economy restructured around the information technology industry. Today about 30% of the productivity and roughly one third of economic growth of the U.S. is in information technology and associated sectors of the economy. The Internet is taking an increasingly visible and leading position, particularly because of its potential in on-line commerce.
