ABSTRACT
Before describing and commenting on the functional role of reflexes elicited by the activation of respiratory muscle afferents, I will present an overview of the different sensory nerve endings in these muscles and their tendons, including the physiological and nonphysiological stimuli, respective afferent fibers, central projections, and spontaneous afferent pathways.
