ABSTRACT

Among the new, absorbable, synthetic copolymers are (1) the segmented copolyesters with prolonged strength retention profiles suitable for producing long-term, loadbearing implants for use in orthopedic applications, (2) cyanoacrylate-based systems, such as absorbable and nonabsorbable tissue adhesives for use in adjoining small bone fractures, as bone sealants in attachment of support structures to articulating joint components, and as dental sealants and adhesives, and (3) amphiphilic, high impact-resistant polymers for use in cartilage tissue engineering.
