ABSTRACT
Automatic transmission fluids (ATFs) are highly specialized lubricants designed to function in automatic transmissions found in mobile equipment exposed to extremes of ambient environmental temperatures. They function as heat transfer fluids, lubricants, hydrostatic hydraulic fluids, and power transfer fluids. To effectively perform these functions ATFs must have a carefully designed set of both physical properties and performance attributes.
